Upazila Nirbahi Officer's message

Lama Upazila is surrounded by small communities, green lands of natural beauty, immense potential of natural resources and places of interest. At one time it was a subdivision town. The upazila has seven unions and one municipality. Most of the land of the upazila consists of hills and forests. The upazila has been transformed into a green land of natural beauty with its high and low hills, flowing Matamuhuri river and the civilization and culture of different ethnic groups. It is believed that the upazila was named Lama as it is located in the lower reaches of the river Matamuhuri in the hilly region. The upazila is at the forefront of Bandarban district in terms of education, culture and economic prosperity. Due to trade and commerce and the development of new education and factories, the people here are also becoming economically prosperous.

It is bounded on the north by Bandarban Sadar and Thanchi upazilas, on the south by Naikhyangchhari upazila, on the east by Ruma, Thanchi and Alikadam upazilas, and on the west by Chakaria and Lohagara upazilas.
