According to the 2011 census, the total population of the upazila is 113413, among them 57904 males and 54509 females. 22447 families live hear. The total number of voters  is 56,482. The number of male voters is 29,960 and the number of female voters is 26,482. The population density is 249 people per square mile. 63.27 percent of the families of the upazila are dependent on agricultural work. 5.84 percent people are engaged in animal husbandry and fishing. 15.54 percent people are agricultural labourers, 6.27 percent people are other labourers, 8.23 ​​percent businessmen.
